We love the wines of Domaine La Soumase – founded by André Roméro in 1979, by 1990, this passionate winegrower had achieved his long-cherished ambition of selling his entire production in bottle. And in 1996, André was joined by his son Frédéric. A new modern winery was built in 2002, the same year they partnered with consultant, Stéphane Derenoncourt who encouraged the adoption of gentler and more finely-tuned vinification techniques, so as to better reflect the unique expression and potential of their terroir.
In 2010 the wines of Rasteau were elevated to cru status, a recognition of its great terroir and the ambition of its winemakers. Today the region competes with Gigondas and Vacqueyras as the leading appellation outside of Châteauneuf du Pape. The regions steep clay-limestone slopes produce powerful wines which can cellar well, from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
We are delighted to introduce to our range the wines of Domaine La Soumade, one of Rasteau’s leading lights and who Robert Parker declared as ‘the superstar of Rasteau’. After recently tasting their wines we were left impressed by their concentration, character and generous full-body.
Why not explore the range and see for yourself how delicious these excellent Rasteau wines are by picking up a few bottles today!
